The somnipax guard S anti-snoring mouthpiece is designed and approved for use in cases of positional obstructive sleep apnoea (POSA) and positional simple snoring (tongue-base snoring).
 
The mouthpiece stands out for being exceptionally easy to adjust and use. This makes it an excellent option in both ENT practice and for independent fitting at home by the patient.
 

  • adaptable: adjust the width of the mouthpiece for an ideal fit and change the degree of advancement using the tensioning bands provided. This means each patient can adjust the mouthpiece to their own jaw.
  • simple: all you need for fitting is hot water and a small bowl. Fitting takes about 15 minutes in total, after which the mouthpiece is ready to use.
  • comfortable: the material is soft yet holds its shape.

Technically speaking, this is a bi-block mouthpiece made from thermoplastic material, the upper and lower parts of which connect to each other via flexible plastic bands. somnipax guard S is CE certified, made from biocompatible material, and has successfully passed the cytotoxicity test in conformity with ISO 10993. The mouthpiece is approved for the treatment of positional obstructive sleep apnoea.

How does a mandibular advancement device work?

Snoring noises and interruptions in breathing at night (“apnoeas”) both occur when the soft issue in the upper airways relaxes and slackens during sleep.

For many of us, this relaxation causes the tongue to fall backwards into the throat (when lying on your back), which narrows or even temporarily closes off the airways. Vibrations and airflow turbulence then occur at this narrowed point. This is what causes the snoring sound. If the airways become completely closed off, interruptions in breathing occur.

A mandibular advancement device is a very effective way to completely prevent the tongue from falling backwards into the throat during sleep.
How does it work? By shifting the lower jaw forward a few millimetres, the device places the tongue muscle under a slight tension. Because of this slight tension, the tongue muscle can no longer fall backwards into the throat. The airways remain clear. Your sleep is free from dangerous interruptions in breathing and unwelcome snoring.
